You’ve probably noticed a few Instagram posts, which not only are a collage of pictures, but also have aesthetic bright editing and are seamless when you move to the next slide. Ever wondered how to make them? Well, here is an easy 10 step tutorial!
1.What Websites do you need?
There are many websites you could use but personally these are the ones we’ll be using.
Canva
Canva is the website we’ll be using for most of the editing. Its pretty simple to use but does need premium for some of its tools.

IMG is the site we’ll be using for cutting the image into multiple frames. If you already know how to make an Instagram scrapbook but want to know how to cut it into pieces, skip over to Step 9.
Step 1: Choose the photos you want to use.
So for examples sake, I’m going to use photos of Gracie Abrams and some nice Italy food/ travel pics that I found on Pinterest. You should at least choose the photos you’d like to use as background images because that will determine how many slides you’ll post on Instagram.
In this case I’ve chosen these five pictures as my background pictures.
Step 2: Decide how many slides you want
Now that you have a fair idea of what photos you want to use, you should decide how many slides you’d like for your post. Since I chose 5 background pictures I’m going to have 5 slides in my post.
You also need to take into account the dimensions of an instagram post which is 1080 x 1080. So quickly multiply 1080 by the number of slides you want. In this case the dimensions for my post will be 5400 x 1080.
Step 3: Customise your dimensions for Canva
Now I want you to hop on over to canva where you’ll see the button “custom size”. Click on it. Once you’re there, type in 1080 as your height and whatever number you’ve gotten as your width.
Click on the ‘create new design’ and It’ll take you to a blank canvas.
Step 4: Create spacing grids
This step isn’t really a necessity, but some of you might find it useful.
Placing grids when editing your Instagram scrapbook, ensures that one background pic is purely on one slide and not shared between the two. There’s not too big of a difference if you decide to place grids or not, but some people think it makes the post better aligned while others could not give a damn.
what you’ll want to do is click on elements which is located on your side tool bar.
Once you’re there you’ll find a searchbar. click on it and and search up “grid” or “box”. I searched up box and chose this option.
I took the grids and stretched them by their corners till they comfortably covered the entire canvas. Since I’m making 5 slides I’ve placed 5 grids. You also need to make sure that the box is the right size. You’ll know its the right size because when you’re stretching the grid it’ll show the dimensions at the bottom. The dimension of each grid must be 1080 by 1080.
Step 5: Place your background pics
Again, there’s so many different ways to do this, and you’re just following my way. I’ve placed scenery pictures into the boxes but others might put selfies, food pics, etc and those are also great ideas!
Now press the upload button on your toolbar and choose the pictures you want to use. Drag them into the right size so that it fits the boxes.
Step 6: Add your middle fillers
Adding fillers between your pictures makes sliding across the post more aesthetically pleasing. It helps add to the overall charm and is just fun to look at. The fillers between a picture could be anything, and whatever filler you add will determine the aesthetic of the post that you will finish off with.
For this design I’ve used the ‘ripped paper’ elements which is under the element button on the tool bar.
Step 7: Add your frames and pictures
There isn’t much advice I could give on this because its really about trusting your intuition and the process. If you think it looks empty, add something, if a certain part looks crowded remove something, but also try not to over think it. Just be creative and do whats best for your style
There are multiple frames available on canva. Some that I like to use are the polaroid frames, paper frames, book frames, tape frames… sometimes the best frames aren’t even under the catagory of frames, you might find them under graphics on the elements button.
Now I’ll add some paper and polaroid frames to my design and place the photos of your liking into the frame.
Step 8: Add doodles and a hand writing font!
Go to elements and search up doodles. You’ll find so many options to choose from, just pick out the ones you like and place them where you want to.
I like adding arrows to it so that I can add little handwritten fonts at the end of them.
If you want to add cute little words than click on text which is on your tool bar and type in “handwriting”. It’ll provide you with a lot of options.
For this I’ll be using the ‘Beth Ellen’ font so this is how it would turn out.
Now the design is finally complete! But the process isn’t quite done yet.
Step 9: Cutting the images into singular slides.
Once you’ve saved and downloaded your design head over to https://www.imgonline.com.ua/eng/
Once you’re there you’ll find a menu bar. On that bar you’ll find the ‘different tools’ options and you’ll need to click it.
Afterwards you’ll find a whole paragraph of options, click on the ‘cut picture into pieces’ option.
Once you’ve clicked it scroll down where you’ll find the cutting settings for your picture. First add your image than enter into the width bar how many pictures you want. I’ve placed 5 into the width option and I’ve left the height as 1.
Once its been sucessfully cut you’ll need to download the zip file of the images.
Once you’ve done that go to your files and unzip it. You’ll have all your Pictures individually sliced.
Step 10: Post it online!
Surely you don’t need me to tell you how to post it, right? Just hop on Instagram and post!
